Mission: S.A.I.D. exists to empower individuals who have developmental disabilities and assure that they are valued and that they and their families can participate fully in, and contribute to , the life of their community.
Volunteers: approximately 100 volunteers gave 1300 hours of time.
Client Served: Persons who are developmentally disabled, mentally impaired, and/or physically disabled. Served approximately 712 individuals during 2006.
Parent Advisory Board: S.A.I.D. is governed by a group of parents and consumer members.

Programs and Services:
DIRECT ASSISTANCE
- Information and Referral Service - Information on local, state and national sources of assistance is provided; quarterly newsletters and informational materials on the causes and prevention of developmental disabilities are distributed.
- Advocacy - Direct assistance is provided in supporting and defending the rights of persons with developmental disabilities. Working with each person and their families, S.A.I.D. assists in gaining access to services from both the public and private sector.
- Citizen Advocacy - One-on-one relationships between a volunteer and a person with a developmental disability are formed to provide peer modeling,. intervention and practical guidance.
- Education - Community Informational/Educational Sessions on current legislative issues, trends in services, state-of-the-art programs, etc., are available to consumers, their families and the community at large.
- Behavior Aide - In collaboration with the Saginaw Intermediate School District, provide in-home behavior supports to parents.
PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
- Quality of Life - Trained volunteers visit group homes to assure that the quality of life of the residents is both valued and respected by the residential care providers.
- RICC (Regional Interagency Coordinating Committee) - Is a committee made up of consumers, secondary consumers and advocates to provide leadership. This group coordinates and encourages cooperation with the pertinent public and private agencies, policy makers, consumers and the general public in the planning and development of programs and services.
SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
- Friends' Club - Opportunities for individuals with, and without disabilities, to enrich the lives of one another through social and recreational activities.
- Summer Transitional Experience - A six-week summer program that provides social, leisure and environmental skill development to individuals five years and older.
- Dance Group - Persons with disabilities are able to learn to express themselves through dance. A volunteer teaches weekly dance classes from September until March. They finish their season with a dance recital each spring.
- Fall Weekend Camp - A two-day camp experience designed to provide fun, leisure and friendship-building activities.
FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES
Each year, S.A.I.D. receives funding from the United Way of Saginaw County, donations, and memorials. Our 6th Annual Golf Outing will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007 at Kimberley Oaks Golf Club in St. Charles, Michigan. This outing has been developed and supported by parents, families, friends, volunteers, and the business community since its inception. Without that support, several programs and services we offer would not be available to our consumers.
